Striking Spanners

Striking spanners loosen and tighten large fasteners by hitting the shank with a sledgehammer — where an ordinary spanner lacks leverage. The section includes striking ring spanners from 24 to 95 mm and imperial from 1-1/2" to 2", and striking open-end spanners from 24 to 100 mm.

A striking ring spanner grips all flats of the nut and is less likely to round them — it is taken more often. A striking open-end spanner is fitted from the side when the nut cannot be approached from above. To tighten large fasteners to a set torque, use hydraulic wrenches or a multiplier with a torque wrench.
