CRCU-60008 Adhesion tester

Description

Adhesion tester for assessing adhesion of paint and other coatings to the substrate by the cross-cut method. With a multi-blade knife the coating is cut through to the substrate crosswise, and by how much coating has flaked off in the cut grid the adhesion class is determined.

Application:
- quality control of painting and spraying in the workshop and on site
- coating checks in the laboratory and QC
- printing and production with coating application

Features:
- three replaceable knives with different cut pitch in one set
- the knife is fastened to the holder with two screws and changed with the key from the kit
- tape method test to ASTM D3359

Application procedure:
1) place the sample on a hard flat surface
2) holding the knife perpendicular to the surface, cut through the coating to the substrate with even pressure at a speed of 20–50 mm/s
3) turn the knife 90° and make the same cut across the first
4) with a soft brush sweep off flaked particles along both diagonals of the grid
5) stick tape onto the grid, press and tear off sharply
6) examine the grid through a magnifier and determine the adhesion class; repeat the test in at least three places

Result assessment:
- 0 (5B) — cut edges smooth, no flaking
- 1 (4B) — small flakes at cut intersections, up to 5 % of area
- 2 (3B) — flaking along edges and at intersections, 5–15 %
- 3 (2B) — flaking in patches, 15–35 %
- 4 (1B) — flaking in large patches, 35–65 %
- 5 (0B) — flaking more than 65 %
