YT-06722 Refractometer (automotive fluid density analyser)

Description

Designed for determining physical properties of a liquid by measuring the refractive index of light in adjoining media. Determines:
- battery charge level (electrolyte)
- freezing point of propylene glycol or ethyl alcohol based fluids
- freezing point of washer fluid
Liquid measurement
Draw a small amount of liquid with the pipette. Lift the diffuser glass and put 2-3 drops of liquid on the instrument prism. Lower the diffuser glass so that the test liquid spreads evenly over the prism surface.
Do not allow air bubbles that may distort measurement accuracy.
Wait about 30 seconds for the liquid to reach the instrument temperature, then, aiming the diffuser glass at a light source, look into the eyepiece.
If the image in the eyepiece is blurred, focus by turning the focusing ring. The boundary between the dark and light areas determines the properties of the liquid, which should be read on the corresponding scale.If battery electrolyte is tested, use the scale with the battery symbol. The result is in kg/l, and the scale additionally has battery charge levels.
If the boundary between the dark and light areas falls in the zone marked
“GOOD” this means the battery does not need charging;
“FAIR” - charging is not required but may be needed soon;
“RECHARGE” - the battery must be charged.
If a propylene glycol based fluid is tested, its freezing point can be read on the “PROPYLENE” scale.
If an ethyl alcohol based fluid is tested, its freezing point can be read on the “ETHYLENE” scale.
If windscreen washer fluid is tested, its freezing point can be read on the scale marked with the washer symbol.
Instrument calibration
Important! Calibration must be performed at an ambient temperature of 20 °C. Also ensure the instrument has reached ambient temperature.
Before each measurement check measurement correctness. For this use distilled water and measure as described above.
The boundary between the dark and light areas must coincide with the line marked “WATERLINE”. If it does not, achieve this with the calibration screw using the supplied screwdriver.
A correctly calibrated instrument should provide measurements at ambient temperature from -10 °C to 50 °C
