Files and needle files remove metal, fit parts and clean edges. The section includes flat, half-round, round, square and triangular files 150–300 mm with cut No.1–No.3, a 250 mm diamond sharpening file, file sets 150–250 mm of 3 and 5 pieces, needle files and needle-file sets 140–180 mm of 5–10 pieces, including diamond-coated, and waterproof abrasive paper.

Cut No.1 is coarse for rough work, No.2 medium, No.3 fine for finishing. Start with a set: 5 files 250 mm No.3 or No.1 and No.2; a compact option — 3 files 200 mm. Individually the usual choice is a 300 mm flat file. For small parts and finishing — 160 mm needle-file set; for hardened steel — 140 mm diamond-coated needle files. Cut metal before filing with hacksaws.
